Things to Know Before Moving to Laramie, Wyoming

Things to Know Before Moving to Laramie

The title of this post probably sounds a little forbidding, but I don’t mean it that way. Living in Laramie is one of my life’s greatest joys, and as a realtor, I take pride in helping others feel at home here.

It takes little to get settled in this city; Laramie welcomes you like an old friend. So many of my clients feel they’re “just supposed to be here.” Wyoming is our happy place, and Laramie is our haven.

Of course, it’s not everybody’s ideal. If you have the blood of a Texan, an Arizonan, or a Floridian, Wyoming’s signature brand of freezing will come as a shock. A cold plunge may be “healing” in California, but around here, we call it “weather.”

The better news is that if you’re in good health, your body should acclimate to our climate in about two weeks. Plus, the pros of living here far outweigh the cold. With our small-town vibes, excellent schools, and ample recreational activities, it’s hard to beat Laramie. So, give it a couple of weeks, and it’ll be like the cold never bothered you anywaaaaay.

Something else I like to tell new residents is that they’ll never be without a friendly face. No matter what part of the country my clients come from, they comment on how kind everyone is around here. We hold doors open. We smile and wave at strangers. And when we ask how you’re doing, we actually want to know!

This brings me to my last point, which is probably the most important: If you’re driving on a dirt road and don’t wave hello to oncoming traffic, you will insult the other drivers (and their families and future generations). My favorite form of acknowledgment is the two-finger “what’s up” wave with a head nod. It’s casual, but it lets people know you care.

We Laramigos care about our people a lot.

So, grab your winter hats, scarves, and coats, and come find your place in the Gem City of the Plains. I’m cheering you on.
